Equity Entrepreneur Workshop

Equity Entrepreneur© Workshop Targets Aspiring Investors & Business Angels In The East Midlands

Following the successful launch of Equity Entrepreneur at an event hosted by Connect Midlands and GINEM (Growth Investment Network East Midlands) the first East Midlands Equity Entrepreneur workshop will be held at Holywell Park, Loughborough on 8th June.

Equity Entrepreneur© is a not-for-profit Community Interest Company working as a neutral, impartial central resource. The Equity Entrepreneur© programme involves workshops for aspiring investors and business angels to explore the delights and pitfalls of investing in private companies and encourages investor clubs where consideration of live investment opportunities can be experienced in a club environment.

There are very few avenues available for those seeking to learn about how to reinvest back into private companies. Equity Entrepreneur© is an initiative designed to stimulate private investment in early stage and exciting high growth companies.

Anecdotal evidence indicates that many successful business people and aspiring business angels, together with their professional advisers, are surprisingly unfamiliar with investing in private companies.  An inopportune first investment may scar the appetite forever.   The Equity Entrepreneur© workshop will cover aspects such as:

  • assessment of management teams
  • reading of business plans
  • valuation of the business and negotiation
  • due diligence
  • intellectual property
  • relevant tax and legal implications
  •  risk assessment
  • completing the deal.

Each stage of the workshop is taken by an experienced business angel or professional.

The workshop offers a unique opportunity for aspiring business angels and their advisers to explore investment in private companies from the perspective of the business angel investor – not how to write a business plan, but how to read a business plan.

Following the course participants are encouraged to join an investor club where live investment opportunities can be examined and discussed, allowing collective evaluation of prospects, before commitment.  Investor clubs may be run by existing practitioners or, alternatively may be set up by syndicates of private investors.
