MEEM has a remit to become the much-needed 'knowledge bank' for ethnic minority businesses in the East Midlands - offering new strength and direction.

"Our aim is to become the voice of the ethnic minority business community locally, regionally and nationally," says Regional Director Nizam Chodhury. "We want to build a vibrant and flourishing multi-cultural business sector."

To this end, plans are being drawn up to:

• provide opportunities for growth
• establish MEEM as a research and development centre of excellence
• assess overseas market potential for ethnic minority businesses
• act as a voice and focal point via an Information Communication Technology (ICT)network being built with partners
• create a climate for investment in, and for, ethnic businesses
• improve employment prospects and training, and increase survival rates for existing businesses.
